Our Story
How we started
Dealing with the challenges of today requires compassionate problem-solvers — individuals who bring diverse perspectives, take risks, and make meaningful sacrifices for the well-being of others.
We Support Caregivers, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Virginia Beach, Virginia, born out of one daughter’s unwavering faith and commitment to caring for her mother.
Our CEO and Founder, LaSheena Renée McBride, began her caregiving journey at just 19 years old. At the time, she had never heard the term “caregiver” — she only knew her mother needed care, and she stepped into that role without hesitation or a clear roadmap.
For over a decade, LaSheena lovingly cared for her mother, Gladys Elizabeth Jones McBride, navigating the many phases of her health journey. These phases shifted as her mother’s condition progressed, each bringing its own set of emotional, physical, and spiritual challenges.
Through the good, the difficult, the unknown, and the overwhelming, LaSheena remained devoted. Her mother’s decline deepened her responsibilities and exposed her to the complexities of the healthcare system. That lived experience not only shaped her perspective but led her to pursue a career in healthcare — a calling born from compassion and purpose.
Today, We Support Caregivers, Inc. stands as a testament to LaSheena’s journey — a faith-based organization dedicated to uplifting, equipping, and encouraging caregivers everywhere through education, advocacy, and the power of self-care.
